I am a Bay Area native,
currently residing in Napa County, with a Bachelor’s Degree from U.C.
Davis and a Masters Degree from the University of Southern California.
I experienced firsthand the college financial aid process during my own
college years. I initially specialized in working with the elder
population with my Masters Degree in Gerontology. As a financial
advisor to seniors and their adult children, I often saw that families
were spending down their retirement savings to pay for college or had
no savings because of previous college costs. My younger clients with
small children were focused solely on how to pay for future college
costs and were not thinking about their retirement. As more couples
wait to have children, many couples will now be close to retirement age
when their children graduate college. I wanted to bridge this gap and
teach my clients to balance both retirement and college planning by
becoming a specialist in the field of college financial planning. In
2002, I started to conduct workshops on the college financial planning
process and help clients with their own children going to college. In
early 2003, I became a Certified College Planning Specialist through
the National Institute of Certified College Planners (NICCP). You can
learn more by visiting www.niccp.com
I speak to local community groups, churches, schools and businesses
throughout the Bay Area offering free tips on how to plan and pay for
college while
still saving for retirement and reaching your other financial goals.
